About Me

Hi, I’m Filippo Trimoldi, a Staff Software Engineer and Tech Leader with over 15 years of experience building large-scale, high-performance systems across diverse industries — from AR platforms and streaming devices to AI-driven video analysis and satellite simulation.

I specialise in C++ architecture, build systems, and platform portability, and I’m passionate about driving software engineering forward with robust tooling, automation, and emerging AI paradigms. At Niantic Labs, I led the migration to a unified Bazel monorepo powering games with 90M+ users, while architecting dynamic CI systems and cross-platform toolchains. I’ve also been responsible for core infrastructure transformations post-acquisition, working with globally distributed teams.

Before that, at Roku and Mirriad, I led teams developing portable platform layers, real-time ML pipelines, and cloud GPU architectures that served hundreds of millions of daily users in China. My early career saw me shaping map rendering engines at TomTom, hacking OpenCV for highway monitoring systems, and writing simulation code for ESA satellites — including one launched in 2024!

Beyond code, I’m a curious technologist who enjoys building practical tools at home — like a personal WhatsApp digest service using SQLite, RAG, and LLMs. I’m also an avid cook and maintain a personal photoblog at filippo.smugmug.com.

If you’re looking for someone who can architect, lead, and ship across the stack — or just want to talk build systems, embedded hardware, or fusion cooking — feel free to get in touch.
